The client for this project clearly instructed our design team that they required a social eating space that also allowed for a residential space. Our design team however wanted to take this further and allow for an integrated social space that would in turn improve the flow and traffic of the public through the city centre of Coventry.

The project involved creating a housing establishment on a site established close to the motorway in Coventry. After primary and secondary research of the diverse population within Coventry and the food interest, it has. A focus on cultural eating was established and was used as a tool to bring people together in the atrium space where stalls are positioned, they can cook for each other and be involved within the process.

Creating a permeable open inviting social space was crucial to the success of the project which transferred in to the use of curved glass panels and a tensile fabric roof to promote fluidity that helped create bright and airy conditions for such social interactions to take place.

The rigid sections of the project such as the housing units required more privacy and subtle measures have been taken to ensure this such as the use of frosted glass, change of levels. These units involved the use of 3D printing as a structural tool which was a lot more efficient, reliable and a cheaper alternative than regular building procedure which ensured the project to be handed on time and lower than the anticipated budget.

Use and change form of building according to client
-
Construction that enables healthy living
-
3D Consultancy studio (client – “this is who I am and what I want…”)
-
Adaptable
-
More direct response to housing shortages
-
Houses that can be hanged/Flexible and adapted by using building construction waste
-
Customizable 3D Printing on existing structure/buildings

What market are we engaging in?
-
What are we doing and what will happen in the future?
-
Use of new technologies which enable low cost construction
-
Aim: revitalise existing structures for recreating unique structures which is appropriate to the context via modern technologies such as 3D printing. Our focus is also to integrate the idea of personalised/customisation.
-
Client: As a consumer why/how if a person is looking to extend house in a sustainable way allow majority of buildings to utilise buildings and homes. Within 2 years focus on industrial units.

Marketing Management:
-
What are you doing to secure income?
-
Who are your clients?
-
Who needs to know about me?
-
Planning strategy on how to get practice noticed (conventions, building construction, council, events, exhibition)

The key idea we started with is the shortage of housing and how we can fix that in the future. These included; possible use of 3D printing for construction, using re-purposed rubble. Sustainable, flexible and low-cost housing. However, gaining advice from Antony we came to a solution that instead of focusing on building new to solve housing "shortage" we could look at utilising already built structures. For example, reusing pre exiting building structures by keeping structural elements to reduce waste and prevent higher production of carbon dioxide during adaptation, 3D printing new spaces within the pre-existing structure. Towards the end of this discussion, the theme for the branding "growing within"/"organic within the grid" developed.

Securing income:
Vision and strategy: To secure income we must be able to sell the business by communicating the vison we have and what we do in an articulate and appealing way. Need to demonstrate our advantages over other firms and show what we can do to help achieve what we need to.

Business plan: We need to have a well thought out business plan and include what we se the business to be within 3 years’ time.
Management team: Should clearly demonstrate the capabilities and competencies of our team and making sure we show we have the skills and experience to manage the business and maximise its potential.

Trust and Transparency: the quickest way to lose clients is to be dishonest and lose their trust make sure what we show in business plan is exactly what we do. If we don’t, we could lose many clients and business will not run.

Advisers: trusted advisers who can share blueprints, offer advice, helps client’s trough the process of the project and make sure everything runs smoothly and if there are any problems they respond and can be contacted asap. (Contact information, social media)
Financial and pricing: understand numbers and drivers affecting cashflow and profitability. Have realistic prices and margins which would benefit clients as it wouldn’t be too pricey, and which would also allow profitable benefits for the company. Be realistic with valuations.
