The client for this project clearly instructed our design team that they required a social eating space that also allowed for a residential space. Our design team however wanted to take this further and allow for an integrated social space that would in turn improve the flow and traffic of the public through the city centre of Coventry.

The project involved creating a housing establishment on a site established close to the motorway in Coventry. After primary and secondary research of the diverse population within Coventry and the food interest, it has. A focus on cultural eating was established and was used as a tool to bring people together in the atrium space where stalls are positioned, they can cook for each other and be involved within the process.

Creating a permeable open inviting social space was crucial to the success of the project which transferred in to the use of curved glass panels and a tensile fabric roof to promote fluidity that helped create bright and airy conditions for such social interactions to take place.

The rigid sections of the project such as the housing units required more privacy and subtle measures have been taken to ensure this such as the use of frosted glass, change of levels. These units involved the use of 3D printing as a structural tool which was a lot more efficient, reliable and a cheaper alternative than regular building procedure which ensured the project to be handed on time and lower than the anticipated budget.

YEAR 1-3
COMMUNICATIONS
For the first three years of our business, communications will need to be at an all-time high to promote not only our brand in terms of clientele but also in general in terms of getting our brand known. This is heavily reliant on working with the marketing of our company.
To start gaining recognition amongst the local and regional businesses, we will need to create a brand image that not only stands out from existing companies but one that also prominently carries forward our company ethics and aesthetics to make sure it is known and recognised.
To achieve all of this, all web design and business image design must be coherent. This includes a website that clearly states our brand, who we are, what makes us unique and our ethos. As well as this, the site will have to be very eye-catching and authentic to our design values. Business cards, as well as information leaflets, are necessary for keeping the image of our branding concise.
Modern branding relies hugely heavily on social media engagement, and so our brand image will also need to be portrayed on social media platforms to represent our brand and its ethos. This may include platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. As well as posting our company projects and interests, we will also need to be getting involved in social media discussions and the reposting of articles and conversations which may be attractive to not only ourselves but also our brand viewers. This is important in showing that we engage with our community and are not solely focused in one field.
CULTURE
Although web design is a massive part of the image, another way of getting our brand known would be through involvement in community events and architectural charettes. This may include RIBA mentoring schemes, job fairs at universities, design competitions and simply event attendances to create networking. Business card design is crucial for these events, as it will leave a lasting impression on those that are given them.
Overall, in years 1-3 of our business plan, consistency in design is critical for brand image as we need to create an image that is not only widely recognisable for its unique traits (physically in terms of our business and what we do, but also in terms of design and having recognisable styles such as logos and fonts). As well as this, easy accessibility and eye-catching designs are what is going to grab and hold the attention of new audiences.
YEAR 4+
COMMUNICATION
As we will be large-scale cooperation in the coming years, we will need to have a more structured web design in terms of social media. This may mean stricter terms of posting and possibly even a more regular newsletter to our members who sign up. The newsletter can inform the audience of any latest updates in our project ventures and any competitions that we will be hosting/getting involved in. By doing so, our audience will feel more in the loop about what is going on.
CULTURE
With our aims to be more nationally spread in the following years, our brand image would need to be significantly bigger and focused on large scale ways of getting our brand known. Being in such an innovative and urban-focused company, this may include hosting our events and competitions, as well as getting in touch with universities to hold guest lectures and events for students. Large scale events may consist of festivals, art shows and degree show sponsorship to promote our brand image further.
