The client for this project clearly instructed our design team that they required a social eating space that also allowed for a residential space. Our design team however wanted to take this further and allow for an integrated social space that would in turn improve the flow and traffic of the public through the city centre of Coventry.

The project involved creating a housing establishment on a site established close to the motorway in Coventry. After primary and secondary research of the diverse population within Coventry and the food interest, it has. A focus on cultural eating was established and was used as a tool to bring people together in the atrium space where stalls are positioned, they can cook for each other and be involved within the process.

Creating a permeable open inviting social space was crucial to the success of the project which transferred in to the use of curved glass panels and a tensile fabric roof to promote fluidity that helped create bright and airy conditions for such social interactions to take place.

The rigid sections of the project such as the housing units required more privacy and subtle measures have been taken to ensure this such as the use of frosted glass, change of levels. These units involved the use of 3D printing as a structural tool which was a lot more efficient, reliable and a cheaper alternative than regular building procedure which ensured the project to be handed on time and lower than the anticipated budget.

Action to task: Research was done and added to the blog
Task 1.5: Seline to carry on updating the design of the website and start animations/visuals for the business plan.
Action to task: Seline has updated the website graphics and layout has been changed with some more logo iterations set out as well.
Task 2: Business plan discussion.
Action to task: The focus for this meeting was to write up initial business statements and plan for the website. We already set out and agreed that the business plan includes the following;
2026 - we start with proposing singular modular elements to pre-existing buildings
2029 - we continue with larger-scale sections of buildings
First-year, we focus on 3D printing architectural elements and modular adaptations of pre-existing structures. For example, staircases, rooms/annexes, unique features.
Second-year, we progress to full re-purpose of pre-existing structures. For example, industrial to residential.
Third-year, we aim to expand our second-year progress into a full method of our practice.
As a group we discussed and wrote up the following for the business plan that will go on the website aimed at our clients:

In this time and age where we must be considerate of our impact on the wider environment, we as a firm take a minimalist carbon approach, where we consider carbon emissions at all points of production. a key part of combating this is our use of building demolition waste as our primary construction material. we also utilise pre-existing primary structures of buildings as to not produce any new carbon in relation to a new steel/concrete frame building.
Task 3: Development of the website graphics.
Action to task: We agreed that we need to take photographs for the website profiles on the 21st of November. Nayeem suggested that the design of the website should have an organised grid layout that links with our business plan. In addition, the meet the team page should be something like the diagram shown below. Vikas suggested that we need to have a group photo and below the individual profiles a feature that lets the user hover over and read information about each person. Seline outlined that we need to think of our previous projects and how we can edit or change certain aspects to make a link to the business plan. Initial logo on the website is shown below and layout, but we realised that the logo doesn’t work for the mobile website and needs changing.
Task 4: Choosing past projects to use for the business.
Action to task: Each member was given the task to look at previous projects from other modules to use for our business. Nayeem discussed we have three projects at different prices for the company and from that, we decided on the best previous projects that suit it;
