3RD Meeting

Minute:

Task 1: Tasks to have been completed for today

Task 1.1: Blog to have been updated by Eyob Mulat

Action to task 1.1: Blog has been updated

Task 1.2: Isaac Moody and Nayeem Shaik financial and technological research

Action to task 1.2: Research started by both members of the group. Isaac looked into 3D printing types and machines and processes. Nayeem began an Excel spreadsheet, inputting the potential costs of the staff and equipment needed to run the business idea. Nayeem had taken into account the staff numbers, 3D printing machines, warehouse space and potential money coming in from projects. Isaac produced a spreadsheet also of different 3D printers, their price, and what they offer.

Task 1.3: Seline Natour to start researching other websites of companies that may be similar to our idea, to get inspiration for how to start our website.

Action to task 1.3: Seline looked into several websites and what she found useful to take forward into our design of the website

Task 1.4: Vikas Parekh research of target market.

Action to task 1.4: Vikas was not able to attend the meeting to share his research but notified the group on the group chat.

Task 2: Business plan discussion.

Action to task: In the seminar, we discussed with Anthony our initial ideas, and we learnt about leasing the 3D printers for the business, especially in the first-year plan. Anthony explained that this is better than buying the printers outright as there would be 20% extra tax; this was crucial information that helped Nayeem with the financing. We were asked about the process of the idea of 3D printing onto existing structures and how we would operate with clients. Isaac suggested, after doing some initial research, the use of AR scanners. The scanners along with the use of drones, would allow us to understand and map how 3D printing would fit into an existing structure. This is the initial idea, and we all agreed to get some more research done for the process.

Task 3: Devising a process to the initial ideas.

Action to task: As a group, we came to an agreement that we would use drone sensory input which allows data to come back to the firm for design. Then the use of AR to visualise what the design may become. The initial process we agreed on is as follows;

  1. Client Meeting.

  2. Drone sensory input to get the measurements and data about pre-existing grid on site.

  3. Meet with clients again to discuss designs further after getting measurements

  4. AR consultation with the client to visualise designs

As the business develops, we agreed to refine and keep changing this process when it is necessary.

Task 4: Assigning business roles and specialities

Action to task: The following roles were given to each team member regarding the business;

  1. Nayeem Shaik - Financial Senior Associate

  2. Seline Natour - Architectural Illustration Director

  3. Isaac Moody - Conservation Director

  4. Vikas Parekh - Public Relations Associate

  5. Eyob Mulat - Design Associate

Task 5: Business plan from 2026 to 2029 discussion.

Action to task: This is what we discussed;

  • 2026 - we start with proposing singular modular elements to pre-existing buildings

  • 2027 to 2028 – we progress to full renovation of old structures.

  • 2029 and onwards - we continue with larger-scale sections of structures and moving to commercial.

During this discussion, there was a misunderstanding about how the business plans to develop over the three years between Seline Natour and Isaac Moody. This was an uncomfortable conversation to be experiencing. To fix this, each group member starting with Seline, followed by Isaac then Eyob and finally, Nayeem put forward their idea of how the business will develop. After this, the plan was cleared up and made clear between each group member. In the first year, we focus on 3D printing architectural elements and modular adaptations of pre-existing structures — for example, staircases, rooms/annexes, unique features.

For the second year, we progress to full re-purpose of pre-existing structures — for example, industrial to residential.

In the third year and onwards, we aim to expand our second-year progress into a comprehensive method of our practice.

Tasks to be completed for next meeting: 14th October 2019

The blog to be updated by Eyob Mulat.

Nayeem Shaik needs to research for the financial strategy for the three-year business plan.

Isaac Moody to further research the 3D printing and drones/AR process for the business plan.

Seline Natour needs to start the theme and layout of the website.

Vikas to be updated of missed meeting and to research into the first year of the business plan; bespoke elements and if there is a target market for our business plan.
